What is EPLI?

EPLI is a specific liability coverage for claims related to employment in the workplace.
It may cover claims such as sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, wage and hour violations, and retaliation.  

Who could potentially file a claim?

It's not just current full time employees that could bring an EPLI claim against you. Claims can be made by past, present, and potential employees as well as part-time, seasonal, temp, volunteers/interns or independent contractors. As a matter of fact. a
claim can even be brought against you by one of your customers or vendors!

Fewer than 25% of employers currently carry EPL coverage. - It's generally a standalone product that's not part of your general liability.

 

Over 40% of EPL claims are brought against private employers with less than 100 employees.

 

Nationally, there are 550 EPL lawsuits filed every day.

 

The average cost to defend and EPL claim is $150,000.

 

For every six claims that go to court, one will have a settlement over $1,000,000, with the median jury award being $250,000.
